God’s been using the story of Joseph in my life for the past 2 weeks…really revealing a lot of truth to my head and heart. one of the things i’m most amazed at this time around in the scriptures was Joseph’s attitude amidst all the crazy that’s going on around him. he never really complains…just keeps living life. he doesn’t complain when he’s getting beat up by is brothers, from the pit, not when he’s sold as a slave, not when he’s falsely accused, not when he’s thrown and prison to be forgotten about… nothing… never…
i’ve been working with teenagers for a long time, and i’m positive that i hear more complaining today that i did 5 years ago (maybe it’s from all of us as a culture and not just our teens…). i don’t know why, and i’m having trouble understanding it b/c i feel like we have more than we’ve ever had, but we aren’t satisfied…
one of the things that always brings me back when i act or feel ungrateful and i’m being all complainy is asking God to help me see what he sees. it’s a scary prayer but it’s amazing. i start to see the needs & hurt of those around me. it brings on a great sense of appreciation…
this saturday, i’m really looking forward to stopping and asking God again to reset my vision to see what he is doing. enough complaining and griping about life… time to live like joseph and appreciate what God has allowed to happen in my life.
we serve at the new jersey food bank in the morning, join me and ask God to change your vision and heart… 8:15am-12:00pm. meet at long hill chapel… ages 12 and up! make sure to email deb anderson or RSVP on facebook if you plan on coming as space is limited.
it’s official! we’ve had one full week of LHCyouth activities and it feels good to be back in the swing of things:) PBbk was awesome last week, it’s going to be amazing connecting with New Life Fellowship and their ministry…the thought of community together really connects with our students.
24:7 and iT, ALWAYS a blast. BIG games (with earth balls and foam swords!), Cafe, interactive messages… LOVE IT!!
this week, i wanted to draw your attention to 2 announcements:
1) Our monthly service project is this saturday! we’ll be heading to New Jersey Food Bank from 8:15am-12pm. it’s for students ages 12 and over… make sure to email Matt (matt @ LHCnj . net) if you are planning on coming b/c space is limited!
2) We’ll be having a Parents Meeting this Sunday (25th) @ 6:30-7:15 to talk about LHCyouth, the direction we are heading, the programs and events we are planning, and different ways for parents to plug into it. PLEASE mark it on your calendar & be there even if you’ve been part of our ministry for years ~ If you have any questions you’d like addressed, please email me in advance so i can make sure to hit on them:)
we’ve got one of my favorite service projects coming up on saturday, our annual FREE carwash. what i love most about this event is that it combines so many cool ideas into one morning/afternoon. we all get there about 7:30, all tired and out of it… then by 10 am EVERYTHING has changed. it’s become the most wet, fun, exciting time together.
i think there’s a reason for this: God loves when we serve people and it energizes our heart. because the carwash is free, and we take absolutely NO DONATIONS while washing cars…it’s done completely because we want to car for our neighbors…with nothing expected in return. it’s SO freeing to just serve…LOVE IT!!
we’d love for you to come and help, bring your car(s), or tell friends to bring their car(s)…here’s the details:
Time: 8am-2pm (if you’re helping, be there in b/t 7:15-7:30)
Location: Next to LHCgym @ 525 Shunpike Rd.
i can’t even begin to tell you how excited i am for this next month at Long Hill Chapel and LHCyouth. i feel like a kid in a candy store right now! we kick off our missions week on the 13th with Project Experience: A guided walk-through exhibit showing the many issues our missionaries encounter on the field, as well as the ministries we support both globally and locally. a handful our of students have already done this at LIFE 2010…and it had a great impact on those who went through it. we’ll go through it as a group, but i’m pleading with you to experience this as a family…it’s too important not to. times it’s open can be found online here: LHC calendar
our schedule is going to change on the 13th…so here it is, but make sure to check the calendar for sure…things might change:)
3/13 – 24:7 @ 5pm & iT @ 6pm (both groups will be going through project experience)
3/16 – PBbk @ 5:30 for pizza, 6:00 for project experience, 7:00 for prayer with/for missionaries
3/20 – project lunch: missions conference lunch after 2nd service…an experience you won’t want to miss!
-24:7 & iT @ 5pm – MOVIE NIGHT!! pick up is at 7:30pm
can you see why i’m excited? pretty sweet right?
and just to liven up your day, please enjoy a little video from sunday night…the Bible in 50 seconds with Sean and Richard…our guys are so awesome:)
Well everyone, Cafe De Youth was a huge success! We had almost forty people come to have lunch, great food was served with a smile, AND no one had their food spilled on them! It was truly a blessing to be able to thank the parents of LHCYouth; and we hope to bring Cafe De Youth into a yearly happening.
The next event to start looking ahead to is 30 Hour Famine! Look on the Calendar for the month of February, and go to our download page for the release form. But let me tell you this, it is an amazing opportunity to demonstrate our walk with God in a real way, and to help save many people from starvation. It is a tremendous event.
We hope to see all of you on Wednesday at PBBk as we continue to dive into Romans! Please, however, look at the website before coming; in case of a snow storm cancels our evening, we want you to be aware of that.
